Lighting That Sets the Mood

Ask any designer what makes a room feel finished and lighting is usually near the top of the list. The same living room can feel cold and flat under one harsh ceiling light, or warm and inviting with a lamp in the corner and a chandelier over the table. Our lighting collection, made under the Madison Park Signature line, is small on purpose. Every piece was chosen to look good switched off and even better switched on.

From a 6-light chandelier that anchors a dining room to a ceramic table lamp for your nightstand, these are fixtures designed to be noticed.

Find the Right Light for Every Room

Dining Room

The dining table is where a chandelier really earns its place. A multi-light fixture with fabric drum shades, like our Elegenza 6-light chandelier, gives off a soft, even glow that's flattering for dinner guests. If you want something you can dim for a more relaxed evening, the Presidio 5-light chandelier is dimmable and comes with adjustable height, so you can get the hang just right over your table.

Kitchen & Entryway

Pendants and smaller chandeliers work well where you need focused light without taking up too much visual space. Our Elm bell-shaped glass pendant looks great over a kitchen island (try two or three in a row) or hanging solo in a foyer. The Abbot 4-light chandelier with glass drum shades is another good pick for entryways that need a bit more presence.

Bedroom

Bedrooms call for softer light. A beaded chandelier like the Melrose adds a touch of romance overhead, and a pair of table lamps on the nightstands gives you light for reading without waking anyone up.

Living Room

Most living rooms need more than one light source. Pair overhead lighting with a floor lamp beside the sofa, like our Aelorian 59" floor lamp, and a table lamp on a side table or console. The Colette rectangular ceramic table lamp brings a sculptural shape that works as décor during the day, too.

A Quick Guide to Layering Light

The secret to a well-lit room isn't one bright fixture. It's three kinds of light working together.

Ambient light is your general, room-filling light. Chandeliers and ceiling fixtures usually handle this.

Task light is focused light for doing things, like reading, cooking or getting ready. Table lamps and pendants over an island fall into this group.

Accent light adds warmth and highlights details, such as a lamp that lights up a corner or a piece of wall art.

When you mix all three, the room feels balanced, and you can change the mood just by switching different lights on and off.

Sizing Tips Before You Buy

Getting the size right matters more than most people think. For a chandelier in an open room, add the length and width of the room in feet, and use that number in inches as a rough guide for the fixture's diameter. A 12' x 14' room, for example, suits a chandelier around 26 inches wide. Over a dining table, look for a chandelier that's about one-half to two-thirds the width of the table, and hang it roughly 30 to 36 inches above the tabletop. In walkways and entryways, leave at least 7 feet of clearance underneath so nobody bumps their head. For table lamps, the bottom of the shade should sit around eye level when you're seated, which keeps the bulb out of your line of sight.

Why Shop Madison Park Signature Lighting

Our lighting lives within the Madison Park Signature line, which is where we put our most detailed designs. That shows up in things like beaded accents, glass and fabric drum shades, and ceramic bases with a handmade feel. Customers often tell us the fixtures look far more expensive than the price suggests, and our floor and table lamps in particular have racked up strong reviews. Since we also design bedding, furniture and décor, it's easy to pick lighting that fits the rest of the room.

Lighting Questions, Answered

Q: How do I choose between a chandelier and a pendant?

A: Chandeliers have multiple lights and spread light across a larger area, which makes them great for dining rooms and living rooms. Pendants usually have a single light and work best for focused spaces like kitchen islands or small entryways.

Q: Are your chandeliers dimmable?

A: Some are. The Presidio 5-light chandelier is dimmable, for example. Check the product details for each fixture, and make sure you pair it with a compatible dimmer switch and bulbs.

Q: Are light bulbs included?

A: This depends on the fixture. The product page lists the bulb type, wattage and whether bulbs are included.

Q: What color bulb should I use at home?

A: For a cozy, welcoming feel, go with warm white bulbs in the 2700K to 3000K range. Cooler bulbs are better suited to workspaces and garages.

Q: Do I need an electrician to install a chandelier?

A: Hardwired fixtures like chandeliers and pendants should be installed by a licensed electrician unless you're experienced with electrical work. Table and floor lamps simply plug in.

Q: How do I clean glass and fabric shades?

A: Turn off the light and let it cool first. Wipe glass shades with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner, and use a lint roller or soft brush on fabric shades.
